Dr. Alvarez graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University before earning his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the honor society reserved for the top graduates in medicine. He completed both his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers.
He has been a partner at Florida Joint and Spine Institute since 2006, performing thousands of hip and knee replacements and building one of the highest-volume joint replacement practices in Central Florida. Research is clear: higher volume means better outcomes. He performs computer-navigated surgery for enhanced implant alignment accuracy, and his patients receive care in a dedicated surgical environment optimized specifically for joint replacement.
A sought-after educator, Dr. Alvarez has taught joint replacement techniques to surgeons internationally, bringing the same standards he applies in his own operating room to the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons worldwide.
Dr. Alvarez is a Fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the leading specialty society in the United States dedicated exclusively to hip and knee replacement surgery. Earning Fellow status demands board certification and a demonstrated minimum surgical volume of hip and knee replacements each year, ensuring that every AAHKS Fellow represents an actively practicing, high-volume joint replacement specialist.
